{Warning! May contain a few spoilers.}
English (British) and French (Arcadian). Two worlds so close yet so far apart! Two lives so different, but so similar at the same time.
Rare, it is indeed for me to find a heartfelt connection such as I have with these two amazing women. They have so much in common- their secret meadow, weddings on the same day, a hope to be a strength to their husbands, a growing faith, and baby girls born only days apart. Catherine's and Louise's hunger for God and His word is an inspiration to me.
I aspire to do as they have. To be friends, not enemies by not letting others actions and beliefs to define and determine mine. To grow better and not bitter.
That is why, everything within me screams that Catherine and Louise must be able to meet despite the forces that pit themselves against them at every turn and cries against the injustice of the prejudices driving them apart.
I pray that God will bring them together again someday.

So, I have a little confession to make. Janette Oke's books are not numbered among my most favorite though I have read over half of them. She is a skilled writer, but her writing style is not one that keeps me enthralled. So, when I picked up this book, I was a slightly skeptical, but well... Oke and Bunn together must be the charm 🍀.
That I love this book is an understatement.
Since it is rare that Canadian History is touched on in fiction, I was very pleased that this story was centered in such a pivotal point in our country's past. The Arcadians and their culture is fascinating.
I remember reading the poem "Evangeline, A Tale of Acadie" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in my school days, but this story showed the atrocious deportation in a whole new light with the forbidden, heart-warming friendship of Catherine and Louise. The ending nearly broke my heart! If only, there hadn't been so much blind prejudice. It goes to show how much fear and bitterness ruin if unchecked.
Needless to say, I have to get my hands on the sequel, ASAP!
I rate this book 5 out of 5 ⭐'s!
Good-bye/Au Revoir, my friends/Mes Amis, until the next adventure/aventuré!
God Bless.
